As a junior, he filled in for Ken McKinney, who had suffered a season-ending knee injury at the beginning of the year. Rob was also the Quaker baseball coach from 1985 thru 1997. The four freshmen were 1973 NAIA tourney MVP World B. Free, Robert Kent, John Ralls and Greg Speas.
